An air conditioning package unit, also known as a packaged air conditioner, is a self-contained HVAC system that combines all the necessary components for cooling or heating into a single unit. Unlike split systems where the components are divided between an indoor and outdoor unit, the package unit contains everything within a single housing.
The compressor is responsible for compressing the refrigerant gas, raising its temperature and pressure.
The condenser coil is where the heat absorbed from the indoor air or space is released to the outdoor environment. It allows the refrigerant to cool and condense back into a liquid state.
The evaporator coil is responsible for cooling the indoor air or space. As the refrigerant evaporates, it absorbs heat from the surrounding air, thereby cooling it.
The AHU contains the blower or fan that circulates the cooled or heated air throughout the building or space. It also includes filters to remove dust and contaminants from the incoming air.
Some package units also incorporate a heating element, such as electric resistance coils or a gas furnace, to provide heating capabilities during colder seasons.
